A new category needs a brand people trust on sight

BarkrZ was one of the first companies to launch in the digital pet tag space, a category that didn't really exist yet. I was brought in to build the brand from scratch and make the registration process simple and automated, for a product type customers had no existing mental model for.

The core idea: scan a QR code on a pet's tag, and instantly see that pet's profile, medical records, and contact information. Simple in concept, but it needed a sign-up experience playful enough to make people care, and a profile design good enough that pet parents would want to show it off.

Fun first, simple always

I focused on useful UX paired with a colorful, emotionally warm UI, designed to capture how pet parents feel about their pets while keeping the process simple enough to introduce a brand-new concept to the market. The sign-up flow was deliberately interactive and playful rather than a typical form, since a generic SaaS sign-up would have undersold what made the product fun.

Built end to end: app, website, and the profile itself

The product let pet parents register their BarkrZ tag, add their pet's information, and upload medical documents and records. Scanning the tag's QR code with any smartphone displayed the pet's unique profile, no app download required to view one.

The brand became the marketing

The profile designs resonated enough on their own that they went viral on TikTok, reaching over a million collective views, without a paid campaign behind them.
